Inlays or onlays

Inlays or onlays are now the state of the art way of restoring heavily broken down teeth. There used to be only crowns which can be quite destructive as the tooth needs to be trimmed down extensively to allow room for the crown to fit on top of the tooth.

Inlays or onlays have become the preferable way to rebuild a tooth due to the major advances in technology in the way we are able to bond porcelain to teeth. The main advantage of these types of restorations are that they require less cutting of the teeth than for crowns. They can look very natural and can help prevent the need for a crown in the future. They are effectively laboratory made large fillings made from more robust materials such as porcelain or gold. Inlays sit entirely within the tooth structure, generic similar to fillings. Onlays sit both within the tooth and cover the top of any remaining tooth that may be vulnerable to breaking.

Two appointments are required. One for the preparation and a couple of weeks later, a final visit for the fitting.
